AIDMI's Internship Programme

The Internship:
AIDMI's Internship Programme is based on the principles of lateral learning, offers young graduates from India and abroad an opportunity to gain direct work experience in the field of disaster mitigation in India and around. The tasks assigned to interns are based on their interest, educational background and previous work experience. The internship period can last atleast from three months to a year depending on availability. The work is assigned only after joining AIDMI keeping in mind the above facts. At AIDMI work is hard, endless and always challenging.

The Opportunity:
Interns in AIDMI have been actively sharing their experiences and learnings with the organisation. While working with AIDMI interns gain:
* Relevant work experience
* Knowledge about how theory works in practice
* Multicultural organisational skills
* Experience in humanitarian issues
* Cultural exposure and communication skills

AIDMI has also developed different methods of integrating the interns into the organisation and enhancing the cultural exchange. Interns work independently in projects but are at the same time supported by their team members and other AIDMI teams.

Interns come build new systems, document field work, conduct training, update data system, design learning modules, measure impact, review partnerships and be in the centre of AIDMI’s activities.

What do interns bring?
* Latest knowledge from their field of study
* New ideas and enthusiasm
* A cultural perspective
* Challenging communication skills

"The All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI), the humanitarian sector in India, and perhaps beyond has significantly benefited from the international AIESEC interns at AIDMI. The students become committed to learning and sharing knowledge on the grassroots reality of the humanitarian sector mitigation

issues. The interns work with the policy makers, practitioners, partners and critics on the main challenges facing the humanitarian sector in India, indeed, in the world. AIDMI will continues to invite students, the leaders of the future, in AIDMI's multicultural environment. AIDMI will continue to promote understanding between the grassroots and these students."
- Mihir R. Bhatt, Director, AIDMI

"The Internship Programme is gaining more and more success. And it is my obsrevation that the applications received are from diverse disciplines. This will help generation of independent, field-reality exposed, creative and committed young leaders in the international humanitarian sector. Further drawing towards

Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development."
- Pushkar Gupte, AIDMI Internship Programme

"My activities in AIDMI consisted of coordinating, designing and developing national courses, preparing media kits, coordinating and developing the Exchange for Change Programme and analysing and being responsible for communications in the 2000 Gujarat drought response. I joined AIDMI as a new economics

graduate. I had a strong sense that I wanted to apply my economic knowledge in the developmental or environmental field but was unclear as to how that would happen. My internship with AIDMI clarified this and significantly focussed my career direction."
